12/6/07

Today I came to clinic thinking that I would be seeing a class 3 this morning but come to find out Jamey needed a class 3 patient and since I was already done with my requirements I switched patients with her so that she could complete her requirements. It was nice to only see a class 2 patient but at the same time it would have been nice to get a couple quads done today on him and schedule him back and have guaranteed 2 quads of a class 3 but thats ok I helped someone which is great! In the afternoon my patient was my husband, he hadn't been in since January of last year so he was due for a cleaning so I saved my last appt. for him. I also needed to pass of my blood glucose PE so it was nice to know that I could pass that off on him today and since he is an EMT he could help me along if I had trouble. He has very heathy teeth and tissue and it was a nice easy afternoon. Everything went well.

It was a good semester and it is great to be done and have a little break!

11/29/07

In clinic I had a new patient in the morning who hadn't been to the dentist in 15 years. He was a midtown pt and they refered him to us. I was shocked because although he hadn't been the the dentist in 15 years his teeth had very little build-up and not a whole lot of pocketing. He ended up being only a class 5 which was ok because I had my requirements done but had I not been it was have been very disappointing.

In the afternoon my patient was a 1B she is the secretary at the fire station that my husband works at and has been wanting to come in and bring her sons with her ever since the beginning of the semester. I finally got her and her boys in and she was a nice easy patient to end the day on.

11/15/07

Today went well in the morning my pt was a 1B and so very nice easy morning. I got him completed and out by 10! He did want a copy of his moms x-rays since a tooth was bothering her and she wanted to go to her dentist and didn't wan to pay for more x-rays and lost her copy from when she was in the clinic in September. It was a good experience since I hadn't dupicated x-rays since fall semester of 1st year and had to learn it all over again basically. Then my pt who was my mockboard who was returning to finish his remaining quads didn't come back. I need one more quad of a class 3 exam so I am worried that I won't find one now but hopefully it all works out. I was able to find another 1B to replace him at the last minute which worked out good since I need 1Bs. He was an easy pt...a little on the weird side but nice! It was a good day!

11/8/07

We had a lab again in the morning and once again I saw my class 4 pt in the afternoon. I can see myself improving a great deal each quad that I do on him and it is exciting. I finished him today and I am going to do a tissue eval and them see him again next semester because he is in such need of regular cleaning appts.

Mockboard 10/30/07 instead of 11/1/07

Today was mockboard instead of 11/1 because my pt came on the wrong day at the wrong time and so my pt was given to another student who was in clinic. I was a little frustrated at first but it all worked out and he agreed to stay for the afternoon so that I could complete my mockboard on him. It was unbelievably stressfull but I am glad everything worked out and I did well on my exam!

10/25/07

My mom was my patient in the morning, she has very heavy and quick building calculus so she was very excited to come back in and have me scale her teeth again. Her calculus is pretty soft and easy to remove so she is a great pt. She was my very first pt. fall semester of last year and it is exciting to see how much easier and better her cleanings go now that I have improved my skills. In the afternoon I again had a cancelation the night before and was scrambling because I was hoping that the pt that I had schedule that canceled would be a mockboard. I ended up finding the pt. and he could come in. He had more than enough calc and probe depths to qualify!!! It was nice to find a pt. for mockboards even if it was at the last minute.

10/18/07

We had no pts in the morning session of clinic and I saw my class 4 pt in the afternoon. He was the same old pt. he is a very nice great guy and we have become friends and he is very appreciative of the treatment I am provding for him. I completed one more quad which means that I only have one left on him. I don't have a mockboard pt still so he is going to be a back up in case I can't find a more suitable patient.

10/11/07

I saw another class 5 patient in the morning, she also took pretty good care of her teeth much like my last class 5 pt that I saw the week before. She had a little more deposit, especially on her maxillary anteriors with is not a usual place to find calculus if they don't have calculus anywhere else. In the afternoon I saw my aunt she has a lot of health problems and she lost her job and was put on disability because of a car accident and so hadn't been to the dentist in quite a while. Her health history was a great experience because I never had done that extensive of a health history, it ended up taking 3 pages of the white paper to document all of her HX findings. She takes good care of her teeth as well so her teeth were in great shape especially considering some of the side effects of her meds and health problems.

10/4/07

I saw my class 4 pt again and was able to complete another quad on him. He had the same amount of excessive bleeding whenever I had contact with his tissues. It becomes very frustrating after a while but makes for a very good experience in attempting to clean his teeth. In the afternoon I saw a class 5 pt and did an exam on her. She took very good care of her teeth and so she had only light calulus throughout her mouth. She came in for me last minute when my pt canceled the night before and it all worked out great!

9/27/07

On the 27th I saw a class 2 pt in the morning and did an exam on her. She was a pt that I had seen last semester and she returned this semester. It was a pretty basic pt with no complications other than the language barrier. In the afternoon I say a 1A, he was very active and a cute little boy. At first he was very hesitant to have me look in his mouth but with a little work I was able to convince him to let me polish and floss his teeth. After my 1A pt. I saw Miguel my other 1A pt again because I placed sealants on his teeth and used a new type of sealant material, which fell out and so I had to do his sealants over again.

9/20/07 Clinic

Today I saw my class 4 patient again this morning and I saw a class 5 this afternoon. My class 4 I only cleaned one quad and it took me 2 hours to clean it. It was exhausting and I was very worn out by the end of the appt and not sure that I had the energy to see another patient this afternoon. My afternoon, class 5 patient was very nice and a not very difficult one. I got her done early and it was another good experience.

9/13/06 Clinic

Today in clinic I saw my dad this morning and a spanish speaking patient in the afternoon. My dad of course was a good patient and he ended up being a class 2 patient for me because he had bone loss which is something that we couldn't see last time since we weren't able to take x-rays at the last appt. My afternoon patient was, let's say very difficult. I was hoping that he would be a class 3 and he turned out to be a class 4 patient and a very difficult class for at that. He had a lot of mobility and furcation involvement and a lot of calculus. We got started on tooth #30 because it had an abcess and needed to get taken care of asap. It was a good experience and I learned a lot.

9/6/07 Clinic

Today I saw a 1A and a 1B patient. It was good to start a little easier and get back into the groove of things but I wish that I might have been able to find some higher classified patients to come in but I am having a hard time finding patients. I found that everything pretty much came right back to me and I could remember how to do everything from last semester that I was worried about remembering. Overall it was a good day.

4/9/07

Today my patient was a patient that was a little old lady who was a class 5. She was very excited when I called her to schedule and very grateful to have her teeth cleaned. She was a little bit more difficult to clean because of her dentition. She was very nice and a good patient to start to head into the end of the semester with.

4/11/07

Today I saw a a patient that was a little more of a difficult on. Not because she was hard to clean necessarily but because of her personality and things like that. She was more difficult to deal with also in that she had a very hard health history that took a long time. She didn't want x-rays but I talked her into those. It was a good experience for me.

4/4/07

Today I saw a young 1B patient. She was a good patient and I got an exam done which was nice so I am done with all of my exam patient and with all of my requirements!!! It is nice to be done, I think it is going to be hard to modivate myself to keep seeing patients without the requirements driving me, but I am excited in a way too!

4/2/07

Today I saw a patient that was a wife of Chanci's patient. She was on a lot of medications so her health history was far more complicated than I have had to deal with so far. It went well and I got her done today. She didn't want x-rays at first but she ended up letting me and I got x-rays too.

3/28/07

Today my mom came back in to take a full mouth series of x-rays on her and pass of some PEs. She also had a lot of build up back so I got to scale her again and get the off for her and get the quads it was a good day especially considering that I didn't even start her until like 9:30.

3/26/07

Today I saw my class 3 patient. She was a women who I said I would see because she needed to start chemo next week. I already had a patient scheduled that day but said I would reschedule her for this lady. She came in and I got her all finished in one day. I went over the time but it was a great experience and it was very tiring for me. She will be able to start chemo next week which is the best part that I helped her out.

3/19/07

Today I saw a child. His name was Adam and he was 5 years old. He was a great patient except for the fact that he kept falling asleep while I was working on him. I guess that meant that I was doing a good job since he was able to sleep but his mouth kept closing so that made it hard. I put a bite block in and finished him and did an exam on him.

3/7/07

Today my sister came in again. She is a class 1B even though she doesn't brush her teeth very often. She didn't have as much build up as I thought that she would. I got her finished today, I took x-rays last appt. and I am done now with scaling and polishing now.

3/5/07

Today I saw my first class 1A patients, I saw 2 sisters that were 5 and 7 years old. I was very suprised to see how much plaque and calculus they had on their teeth being so young. It was fun to see them because they were very good little patients especially for kids. I got both of them done in one day so I got 8 quads of class 1A. It was more difficult for me to chart the mixed dentition since we don't do it often but overall I would say that the experience went well today.

2/28/07

Today my patient was another class 1 she did have a lot of resorations. She had 12 crowns and 4 fillings, which made it a fun experience to try to chart all of those. It also made it more difficult to remove placque and calculus in her mouth. It was a different experience than I have had in the past so that was nice. I got her done a lot faster than I thought I would and it went well.

2/26/07

Today a friend of my husbands came in. He was a class 1B and a farely easy one. He took really good care of his teeth and he was very interested in any suggestions that I had for keeping his teeth clean. It went well and I got him done in 1 hour and 45 minutes or around that. It was nice to know that I am getting faster and that I got him done so fast. It went really well.

2/21/07

Today's clinic was very interesting I had a patient that was only 16 years old and from China. I went through everything and called for an OD check one of the TAs declared her a class 1B and a scaled and got all of the supra calculus. When I called for a scale check Prof. M came over to do the scale check and she said that she should have been a class 2. As is turns out she had a rim of calculus under her tissue that needed to be removed. I used the ultrasonic scaler to remove it. It was my first time using the ultrasonic and with how much calculus there was it was a little bit challanging but it went well. I was happy to have another class 2 and have the experience with the ultrasonic.

2/14/07

Today we went over how to use the ultrasonic. It was a little different then I thought that it would be. I didn't know that it would get the person so wet and it is more difficult for me to detect calculus with the tip. I know that I will get better at it but for now I need a lot of work. My goal on learning it and trying it out to get a feel for it was accoplished and it was a good day.

2/12/07

Today in clinic my patient was a patient from the recall list, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My goal was to get to scaling and depending on what class she was to try to finish scaling and possibly declare and exam. She ended up being a class 2 and I declared my class 2 exam. It went really well I got her finished in the right amount of time and didn't have any spots of calculus left. I was really excited and it was really nice to know that my class 2 exam is done.

2/7/07

Today my sister came in. It was nice to have another family member come in, its not as stressful that way. I wanted to get a full mouth done on her today, that was my only goal. She had never had one before and is prone for caries so I decided she would be a good one to do it on. I got the full mouth done and with only three retakes. It was a good day!

1/5/07

Today in clinic my dad came in as my patient. My goal was to declair an exam on him so that I had one of my exams out the way for the semester. I accomplished my goal, I decided that I wanted to get it done so I declaired it. I got him finished in the amount of time that I needed to and instructor skeen didn't find any clicks left when i was done. It was a very nice feeling to get on of those out of the way.
